I painfully left work early last Thursday to catch a 3 o'clock ferry to Nanaimo. You know that feeling where you're not sure if you did everything on your to-do list? AHH!
Getting out of the city is probably one of the best feelings for me. I love that feeling of taking
exit, getting out of traffic and driving onto a street surrounded by huge evergreen trees. I am so grateful for that feeling and I am so glad Chris planned this getaway for us. We left for Nanaimo on Thursday and drove up to Parksville where we stayed at
. It was our first time there, but we had so many people tell us that it was a great place to stay, so we weren't worried at all.
We stayed in a Bungalow (looked like a cabin) close to their famous Grotto Spa. It was cute and very private. I kept saying it felt like we were alone in the woods. We even saw a couple deer from our front door. It was a cold weekend, so we had the fireplace going the entire time, so cozy!
During the day we visited Coombs, famous for their market with goats on the roof. It was - 5 so we didn't see any goats. I don't blame them. We also checked out: Cathedral Grove, Little Qualicum Falls, Rathtrevor Beach and Downtown Nanaimo. We were alone and the only people on the road most of the time. The perks of winter!
Looking back I wish I took more photos. But in that moment... the last thing I wanted to do was take my phone out. It's nice to just live in the moment, take it all in and breathe.
