Spring Trenches

Row 1: Burberry Studded Trench Coat from their SS11 CollectionDIY tutorial from Studs-And-Pearls.com
Row 2: Rachel Roy Trench Coat n/a, but try this one from Maison ScotchSleeveless Trench Coat from Saucyglossie.com, here's a similar one from Shopbop
Row 3: A Pinterest find, but try this one from Forever21Obaz.com

My style inspiration for today is the Trench Coat. Dressed down for weekend brunch, or dressed up for a day of meetings. I love a good trench coat. I've had the same Vero Moda trench coat for over 5 years, and every Spring it comes out of my closet. I'm a t-shirt & jeans kinda girl so anything that can dress up dark denim and a tee, I'm game for!

Spring Break in Suburbia

Top Spank / Bottoms Mavi / Sandals Spring from a couple years back, but similar ones here.

Happy Friday everyone! I've put aside the Easter egg dye and stepped away from the family madness to take a couple shots of my style today. This is the first time out without a jacket! Wooohoo :)

I love crochet lace. As soon as I saw this top at Spank, I knew I had to have it. It's summery, almost bohemian, but the collar gives it that professional feel. The entire top is sheer. In my photos I'm wearing a nude tank, but you can spice it up with a pastel bustier.

Let's Make Lunch

Pomegrante & Purple Basil Smash from Bakers Royale

Avocado & Grilled Corn Salad with Cilantro Vinaigrette from Authentic Suburban Gourmet

Spinach & Artichoke Melt from Half Baked Harvest

It's a short week at work and I'm looking forward to the long weekend!
Every Easter, I usually have a couple friends and some family over after church. This is my inspiration for this year's Easter Lunch. It's pretty light considering my family makes a huge turkey dinner.

Here's some music to match. I just discovered JP Hoe. He's a singer songwriter from Winnipeg and will be playing a show at the Electric Owl in Vancouver on April 25th.

This song is on my "Home" playlist, and I just put it on when I'm making stuff. It puts me in a good "food making" mood. I'm not really into the music video, but I still like the song.

Floral Pop

Floral Pop
Floral Pop by amandapanes featuring a h & m

Finally! Some warm weather. What a difference a couple days of sunshine makes in Vancouver. Everyone is in a better mood and people are eager to bring out their spring colours!

But looking in my drawers right now, I've got a lot of dark denim, black pants, grey long sleeves and too many sweaters. I take twice as long trying to figure out what to wear because I don't want to feel or look like I'm stuck in December. How about you?

Treat yourself to a little floral pop! Here are a few ideas to get you started on transitioning from Winter to Spring:

Wise Words

Wise Words from Socrates

For those of you who have followed or read the "old" TheModline.com, you may have known that it was an Online Lifestyle Magazine that focused entirely on Vancouver fashion, music and art. I am and have always been a huge advocate in purchasing and supporting our local businesses. Which is why I went in that direction with this website 8 years ago.

This past January, I lost motivation to update the site. I felt guilty and frustrated about not being able to keep up with emails and posting.

So much of my life has changed in 8 years. I'm done with school (I think), travelled, I bought a place, I'm engaged and I've got a seriously cool job that I love and am grateful for. I knew I outgrew what the old Modline was. I had to make a change.

I'm happy and really excited to tell you that I'm turning a new page and will be sharing a more personal look at my journey as a “modern woman”. I want to share with you things I'm currently passionate about and love, like art, fashion, music and creating beautiful and positive spaces, without limiting myself to talking about only Vancouver businesses. I'm hoping that I'll spark more conversations and continue to inspire you but this time be a little more real and still stay fun.
